I have learned to trust that when I invite intuition in, it will come in the form that its needed.

Flora Exhibit: The Making Of

"I learned about fashion and sewing when I was so young it was almost like a language." — Dennita Sewell

To be fully immersed in someone's world and get to translate it visually, even for just a moment, is absolutely what brings me alive. You have to speak their language but in order to do so, you have to learn the language first. I'm thankful I get to translate that perspective, especially as a female, through film.

Trailer previewed at Arizona Costume Institute Spring Exhibition Viewing. Featuring Dennita Sewell, The Jacquie Dorrance Curator of Fashion.

INTUITION II

“I remember that day I had this instinct to pick up all of my flowers that I was terrified to use and put on the music that I'd been listening to… and I just danced with them. It's one of the first times I've danced in years. I needed to inject joy into the process because I think that joy is the opposite of fear. Every decision had been made from intuition. It was beautiful.” — Katie Davis

I think the most beautiful work happens when people work intuitively. For so much of my life, I used to believe being "sensitive" was a bad thing - that it made me too vulnerable. But the truth is that this gave me a gift: to feel and connect with others deeply. Being attune to people’s emotions means you can create a space for them to be heard and understood intimately. It is here where you create your best work because it means you trust yourself and it shows up in what you create. I want to tell you the stories of women who do that.

Sue Bryce Education

“I love watching people unfold in front of the camera and seeing their light shine out. You just see this is more than physical beauty. What comes down is that: Am I ok being the best that I can be? Is it okay that I’m allowed to shine? That I’m allowed to love myself? That I’m allowed to be good enough?” — Sue Bryce

Over a series of multiple filming days, I captured Sue Bryce in various settings: a public stage, her home, and photography studio in Los Angeles. Our goal was to illustrate the depth of her education program and capture the vulnerable and powerful moments that happen through her mentorship. Sue walks through present-day challenges and answers questions to help get her students to the next level and stay relevant in a rapidly changing photography industry.

INTUITION I

There is a strength and beauty when you are in tune with what your inner voice says and choose to follow it. It is here where you create your best work because it means you trust yourself and it shows up in what you create.

My Intuition Series beings with a very intimate conversation. I ask questions to find out where it all began and I listen for visual cues — a visual interpretation of a memory, an experience, or belief. I then take these visual ideas and spend time brainstorming ways to translate them to moving images. When I interviewed Fawn, the words that stood out to me as visual cues were: water, stillness, and language (speaking through photos). So I took those 3 themes to form the visuals for her story.
