It's a hard life when you're almost 3

I mean, who makes you go to the park for an hour and a half? Then takes you on 5 trips to the elevator. And makes you try out at least 4 different swings? Play soccer on a mushy ball so things won't break around you? And watch DORA?!

What a cruel world.

Oh let's not kid.

I'm an awesome babysitter.

Especially the giving the kid back part. What a pro! Joshua and I... we bonded on Tuesday afternoon. I ran into my neighbors on my way out and Joshua announced to everyone we were heading to the park. In case they were wondering. However, I had this odd feeling most of them were actually wondering "where did this little one appear all of a sudden...?"

We'll leave them wondering. We're moving out this weekend anyway.

The Excitement of Expecting

There's a bit of a buzz when baby showers are thrown. Generations come together to celebrate (four here to be exact):

I continue to be in awe of my friends becoming mothers. Absolutely in awe.

This was a special day for Hannah because her grandmother was also in town and wanted to be sure these exciting times and details of this day were captured. I feel lucky to have been asked to photograph this intimate day -- something out of the ordinary for me.

Girls and their curiosity. They didn't even notice me stepping back to steal this photo.

And while this was the first time I was asked to shoot a baby shower, I realize that it's not very different from many other sessions. It's a very important day in someone's life who has poured details, love, and moments they don't want to ever forget. So much so they want one person dedicated specifically to capturing it because it's that important.

The perfect gift for the daddy who works construction :)

Happy Friday to you and all of the expecting mothers! Especially one with twins ;)

I attended the PASS Premiere Tour last night and I seriously left on a high. I'll have to collect my thoughts and share all of it with you next week. Let's just say that David Jay left us with this note -- which to me personally was the overall theme of the day:

DJ's father to a 16 year old David: "At the end of the day if you make your business about serving other people... you will always have business."

Thoughts for you next week! :)

Distraction: Babies and Children

I have a problem. Keep your children away. FAR away if you want them back. Honestly, I don't know what's going to happen when I'm blessed with children one day. Will I still be as obsessed? It's the most insanely magnetic feeling when I'm around kids and babies that I have to focus on the task at hand. My arms start to automatically reach out towards the baby (stranger or not) before I'm even aware I'm doing it! Thus my mind has to send my arms a message to chill out. Or maybe that's Jose's loud voice actually saying "chill out girl!"

I'll leave you with an example. My friend Hannah hired me to take photos of her beautiful baby shower last weekend and what is most likely to be at baby showers? Babies and children. And the game of bingo... but I digress. It only took seconds for my attention to drift...

Girls crack me up. Whether you want to attribute it to genetics or mimicking what we see socially, I'm amazed at how nurturing little girls are.

This little cutie took a stuffed lion that Hannah received with her gifts and decided it was her baby. I look over and see her wrapping the lion up with one of the tissue papers that littered the floor from opened gifts.

I was cracking up at her crafted blanket and the way she would cradle her lion. You better believe I was one of those little girls. Obsessed with babies then just like I am now.

Then apparently it was lion's nap time. Tucked in by his new mama lion ;)

So, really... do you BLAME me for being distracted?!

And Jose wants to put a quota on the number of photos I take when we have our own kids? At this rate you might as well come tie my hands. OUT OF CONTROL. I'm out of control.

Happy Friday ;)

Husband Chronicles: My Asian Confession

Yes. I do it. I sometimes wonder what Jose and I's kid(s) will look like. Will they have my husband's oh-so-cute-often-teased-about eyes? Who will get the short genes and who will get the tall ones?

I swear that the first time I went on a date with Jose, in the back of my mind I wondered "Is one of his parents Asian?" Surely, I thought, someone has something Asian in them. I thought it was subtle and cool. Go ahead and judge me for basing a cultural assumption on looks, but I know I'm not the only one! Nod your head. It's okay. People think I'm white all the time.

But seriously, how does one go from looking like this....

to this?!

We're talking different skin tone and features! Isn't it amazing how babies change and develop over time?!

But my point is that I've always been so fond of Jose's prominent features -- especially his eyes. When I look at his baby photos, I laugh so hard and start to fall in love again. His curiosity, affection, and goofy sense of humor -- I see it in those photos.

So imagine my heart when I stumbled across Hamada Hideaki's work...

These are her boys and her AMAZING photography.

I admire how some people have an inherent ability to freeze moments. It's almost like she's hidden in the background, giving us a glimpse of 2 brothers' mischievous, exploring, and adventurous world.

When I saw these photos, I thought about Jose and what he was like as a kid. I saw him in those photos. How he still has those playful characteristics and how I can't even imagine what our boy will be like, fused with our personalities...

Don't you just want to spend an afternoon with them?!

Lucky for me, I get to spend an entire life with this one :)

And I can only imagine, God willing, the adventures our little ones will put us through one day!

Babies & Children: Natalee Johnson

Don't you love how she spells her name?

Let's give you a dose of cuteness on this Monday:

I told you! Cuteness overload..

With her daddy...

and with her grandparents!

I hope this makes you want to reach out and tickle those little toes!

Just look at those gorgeous eyes...

Beautiful girls!

You have to see how Bethany and Kylan love on Natalee. When they make her laugh, she has the cutest spit bubbles! You know you're adorable when your spit makes people go "awww." And as individuals, Kylan and Bethany are a blessing to get to know.

In case you didn't have enough pink or cuteness in your day -- now you do! Thank you Bethany & Kylan :)

p.s. I don't know how many of my readers create slideshows of their clients or their own children, but I have FINALLY put a small collection of the SWEETEST baby songs. I am NOT talking about "I Hope You Dance" or some other old school song. While I'm not trying to hate on Ms. Womack (I realize some oldies have associated memories), the times are changing and there is amazing talent you have to dig for. I suppose it's a personal preference, but I've gotten a lot of positive comments from parents about the music I choose and decided, why not share it? You can see examples of my videos here.

I was going to post it on a Photography Forum online (Open Source Photo) instead of my blog, but it will depend on the reader's response (since I don't know how many of my readers are actually interested in baby songs :). Give me a head's up if you'd like me to send you the list of artists and songs via comment or e-mail! Do you have a baby song you love? :) Happy Monday!
